President Nguyen Minh Triet took part in a ground-breaking ceremony to kick-start the construction of Da Phuc port complex in Pho Yen District in the northern province of Thai Nguyen on March 2.
The project is expected to cost VND260 billion (US$13.7 million) and set to be completed in this year’s fourth quarter.
The port complex, invested in by Chien Cong Industry and Transport Cooperative, is expected to help reduce traffic gridlocks in the North.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Triet said the province’s authorities and relevant agencies should review performances of this kind of cooperative model to draw experience and then expand on it.
Chien Cong Cooperative is currently posting strong growth in the areas of fero mangan production, mineral exploitation, goods transport, and industrial infrastructure construction.
The cooperative has created jobs for nearly 1,200 people with an average income of over VND2 million (US$105) per month.
On the same day, the President visited Military Region 1 and worked with Thai Nguyen authorities.
He lauded the province for its remarkable progress, adding that Thai Nguyen has achieved a high growth rate.
The President also hoped that Thai Nguyen would become a developing industrial province soon.
