PM asks localities to actively deal with downpour & flooding

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc yesterday required the People’s Committees of the Northern provinces to quickly overcome consequences after the previous long- lasting downpour and flood.

In recent days, the northern mountainous provinces as Thai Nguyen, Lai Chau, Dien Bien and Hoa Binh consultatively suffered long- lasting torrential rains, causing serious flooding, landslide and interrupted traffic and damage on people and property. 

Currently, the northern region is nearing the rainy and flooding season. Therefore, the weather situation is predicted to be complicated in the upcoming months. 

Dealing with the on-going bad weather, the Vietnamese PM asked the localities need to seek missing victims in the previous flooding; visit and support affected families; eye damaged zones of flashflood and landslide; and actively remove households out of damaged areas.

The leader also directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to check safety operation of local hydropower plants and dike systems, and timely adopt protection measures for agricultural production. 

Besides that, Ministry of Transport of Vietnam also need to ensure smooth traffic on the national highways; and the National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention should keep its eye for the complicated current weather situation as well as prevention form floodwater increase in the downstream rivers and Red River.
