The third percussion music festival titled ‘Cracking Bamboo’ will return at the Goethe Institute and Youth Theater in Hanoi on October 6-7, and at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music on October 10.

After successful concerts in 2008 and 2010, this year’s event will attract 31 artists from Asia and Europe, including Germany, Norway, France, England, Mongolia, Canada, Belgium, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
Three percussionists from HCMC Conservatory of Music and three musicians from Hanoi will play Vietnamese string instruments including ‘Dan Bau’ (monochord) and ‘T’rung’- - a musical instrument of the central highlands.
On the foundation of percussion instruments and rhythm, ‘Cracking Bamboo’ combines Asian and Western music, which produces an exceptional and unique sound by simple percussion instruments. The festival also supports the cultural exchange between western and eastern nations, and introduces innovative methods and practices in the field of music and performing arts.
