People rushed to Saigon Jewelry Holding Company shops in Ho Chi Minh City to buy gold February 9 though prices were up VND80,000 per tael (37.5 grams) from a day earlier.

According to SJC, 40,000 taels were sold that day.
The reason for the gold rush is not clear yet but the company imported four tons of the metal on that day to stabilize the market.
SJC, SBJ, and PNJ-DAB gold were sold at VND25.16 million (US$1,360) per tael February 9.
SJC launched a new product the same day -- a 10-tael bar of 99.99 percent gold.
