Over 900ha devoted to Tet flowers in HCM City

The total area in Ho Chi Minh City allotted for growing flowers and ornamental plants for the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays has now reached 903 hectares.

The city’s Agricultural Promotion Center said January 5 that of this area, 402 hectares are being used to grow yellow apricot blossom plants, 17 percent more than last year.

Households in districts 2, 9, 12, Thu Duc, Go Vap, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon and Cu Chi have broadened areas to grow flowers and ornamental plants to around 1,650 hectares.

In addition to ornamental plants, flowers for the upcoming Tet in February will consist mainly of daisies, marigolds, lilies, cockscombs, hollyhocks, peonies, sunflowers, and apricot blossoms, according to the center’s director.

The center estimates that floral output for this year’s Tet will amount to 1.5 million pots of yellow apricot blossoms, over two million pots of ornamental plants, and over five million sprigs of other flowers.
