Four Norwegian musicians will join the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) on March 19 for a performance of classical works.
Trombone player Terje Grondahl, flutist Synnove Li, trumpeter Tormod Asgard and conductor Truls Sanaker will accompany the HBSO in performing works by classical composers including Mozart, Williams, Haydn and Paganini.
Three movements, Allegro assai, Andante and Allegro will be played from Mozart’s Symphony No.31 in D major, KV297. The symphony, better known as the Paris Symphony, is one of Mozart’s most famous symphonies.
The piece first premiered in 1778 at a private performance in the home of Count Karl Heinrich Joseph von Sickingen, the ambassador of the Palatinate. It was later performed publicly over six consecutive days in a performance by the Concert Spirituel.
Other classical works by England’s R. Vaughan Williams, a master composer of chamber music, opera, choral music, and film scores; Australian J. Haydn, hailed as the "Father of Symphony" and "Father of the String Quartet;" and Italian renowned composer N. Paganini; will also be performed during the concert.
Pieces by Williams will include Sea Songs and three movements of March – Seventeen Come Sunday; Intermezzo – My Bonny Boy; and March – Folk Songs from Somerset from English Folk Song Suite.
Norwegian trumpeter Asgard will perform the Trumpet Concerto in Es-dur by Haydn while violinist Ho Dang Hoi will play Variations on a theme from Rossini’s Moses for Violin and Orchestra by Paganini.
The concert will be led in turn by Norwegian conductor Sanaker and Vietnamese conductor Tran Vuong Thach.
The performance also features the HBSO Youth Symphony Orchestra.
The show starts at 8pm on March 19 at the HCMC Opera House, District 1. Admission is VND100,000-200,000 (US$6-11).
