North- central region overcoming consequences after typhoon Talas

Tropical typhoon Talas caused serious property damages as well as influenced in life and production of local people after it landed the provinces from Ha Tinh to Thanh Hoa in the past days.

Statistics showed that thousands of houses, hundreds of fishing vessels and cargo ships were destroyed by big wave and powerful wind. 

The local authority in collaboration with functional forces helped people and fishermen to quickly overcome consequences and serious damage after the natural disaster. 

Although the typhoon weakened into a low tropical- pressure system in Laos, its circulation continues causing heavy rain in the north and north- central region. 

According to the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center, total rainfall in the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien- Hue reached at 70- 150 mm, at 150- 300 mm in Ha Tinh and Quang Binh within recent two days. 

The highest rainfall in Ha Tinh city and Hoang Son, Ba Don township of Quang Binh province was up to 311- 323 mm. 

The National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and National Committee for Search and Rescue of Ha Tinh province reported that typhoon Talas caused serious property damage; in particularly, heavy rain and powerful wind destroyed 45 kiosks, 45 houses, four schools, 3,026 hectares of rice crops, 1,083 vegetable hectares, 8.5 hectares of fruit gardens, 220 hectares of perennial and hundreds of trees.

Additionally, four local fishing vessels were sunk by big wave and strong wind. 

The National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and National Committee for Search and Rescue of Nghe An province said that the bad weather killed one people; caused 35 houses in danger of collapse; blew up 186 roofs of houses and health centers; 14 houses in danger of landslide; sank thousands of hectares of rice, maize and vegetable crops into the water.

 By last night, the recuse forces found out seven people among 13 reported missing in the self-sunk coal-laden vessel accident.

Earlier, Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper reported that the coal-laden vessel carrying 26 crew members was suddenly sunk by typhoon Talas near the Hon Ngu Island in the territorial water of Nghe An province in the early morning.

This year’s the second storm hitting the East Sea destroyed also 57 local fishing boats, tugboats, cargo ships and steel shell-ships in the Hon La Port, Quang Dong commune of Quang Trach district.


Overcoming consequences after typhoon

The Vietnam Road Administration yesterday said that many national highways were deeply inundated under 60- 100 cm, causing several hour traffic jam. 

On the same day, the Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company announced that ten trains including SE1, SE3, SE4, SE17, SE18, SE19, SE20, QB1, NA1, NA2 on the Thong Nhat railway line had to stop operation because of the influence of the typhoon. 

Ministry of Industry and Trade collaborated with Electricity Vietnam (EVN) directed activities and measures dealing with the unexpected flashflood and downpour at Trung Son Hydropower Project. 

Local peope overcome consequences after typhoon Talas
 The bad weather influenced in operation of 110kV power grid system across the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh, and 131 medium voltage lines across the provinces from Nam Dinh to Ha Tinh. 

Amid to the complicated weather condition, the Vietnamese Prime Minister yesterday asked relevant ministries, departments and localities quickly overcome consequences after the typhoon.

The National Steering Committee for Search and Rescue plans to collaborate with Ministry of Transport and the People’s Committee of Nghe An province to focus on seeking and recusing crew members of VTB26 maritime ship, support local people to early stabilize their life and production. 

Prime Minister Phuc also required the National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue should organize a meeting to share experience for weather forecasting activities to reduce damages by the unexpected natural disaster.
