Non-Resident Indian Day celebrated in HCMC

On the occasion of the 14th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (Non-Resident Indian Day), the Consulate General of India in HCMC organized a warm gathering of Indian community in the city on January 9, 2017.

The event entailed cultural performances by the members of the community at the HCMC Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO).

The Indian Government has organized the annual event since 2003 to mark numerous achievements and contributions including significant financial source by millions of Indians living overseas.

"Indian community in HCMC is small but is an active and dynamic participant and has played an effective role in being a bridge between India and Vietnam and in further strengthening cultural tourism educational and other links between the two countries,” said Consul General Smita Pant.

The community had also participated in various cultural and developmental initiatives undertaken by the city, she added.

Attending the gathering were representatives from city authorities including Mr. Le Van Thu, Head of External Relations of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in HCMC; Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong Diem, Chairwoman of HUFO; Mr. Huynh Thanh Lap, Chairman of Vietnam – India Friendship Association in HCMC and Mr. Dao Trong Cuong, Specialist of Cultural Relations Office of the Department of External Relations.
