Netherlands to support Vietnam against saltwater influx

The fifth session of the Vietnam-Netherlands Inter-Government Commission on climate change adaptation and water management was organized in Hanoi on March 30.

The meeting focused on discussing cooperation programs as well as solutions in coping with climate change between Ho Chi Minh City and Rotterdam city.

In previous years, Netherlands' experts have supported Ho Chi Minh City in increasing the nation's ability on climate change adaptation and water management. The partner has also desired to offer a long- term cooperation with the city in the above mentioned issues.

On the city’s side, deputy chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee Le Van Khoa said that the city  would like to continue cooperating with Rotterdam city, adding that Rotterdam city needs to carry out more projects on water resources to improve water management over reservoirs and solve saltwater influx in the big city of Vietnam.

The fifth session was co-chaired by Vietnamese Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang and Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment of the Netherlands Melanie Schultz van Haegen.
