Meritorious Artist Quang Ly dies at 65

Meritorious Artist Quang Ly, one of the country's leading singers of folk and revolutionary music, passed away at the age of 65 from a cardiac arrest in Ho Chi Minh City on December 1.

Meritorious Artist Quang Ly, one of the country's leading singers of folk and revolutionary music, passed away at the age of 65 from a cardiac arrest in Ho Chi Minh City on December 1.

Meritorious Artist Quang Ly was born in Thailand in a Vietnamese family. His family moved to Hai Phong when he was 9.

He started his singing career at the Voice of Vietnam and has been one of the most popular singers in the folk, romantic and revolutionary music since 1975.

He moved to Ho Chi Minh City in 1983 and worked at the Bong Sen (Lotus) Traditional Song and Dance Theater.

He achieved his popularity through best songs, such as  Thuyen va Bien (The Boat and Sea) and Tho Tinh Cuoi Mua Thu (Autumnal love poem) by composer Phan Huynh Dieu; Sao em voi no lay chong  (Darling, why getting married so soon) by Tran Tien and more.

The singer made his last appearance at The Mash-Up TV show in the city on November 22.

His funeral will take place at the Chi Minh City Funeral House on Le Quy Don Street in District 3. He will be buried at the city's cemetery in Cu Chi District on December 3.
