‘Melor’ storm towards Spratly Islands

Currently, ‘Melor’ typhoon moves closer to the central region of the Philippines and approaches East Sea that is predicted to threaten to the weather condition in Spratly Islands in the upcoming days, reported the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center on December 14.

The Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center of Pacific Asia region said “Melor’ is a strong storm with its complicated direction.

The typhoon was centered at 12, 6 degrees north latitude and 124, 6 degrees east longitude yesterday evening. The strongest wind speed near the center gusted level 15- 17.

In last 24 hours, the super storm mainly moved westwards at 15- 20 kilometers an hour. After entering into the central region of the Philippines, the typhoon hit East Sea with its strongest wind of level 13.

Cold weather yesterday shouldered over the east northern, west northern and north central provinces. Due to cold front, the areas of Gulf of Tonkin and East Sea’s northern region appeared level 6- 9 strong winds, announced the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center.

With the complicated weather situation, the National Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention asked the authorities from Quang Ninh to Ca Mau, the northern and north central provinces eye the release information to help local residents to move to safer places.

At present, more than 750, 000 Philippines people were moved to safer places to avoid the typhoon. The center said that Melor typhoon is going to make landfall in the country and it will be able to cause heavy rains, flood and landslides.

The Phillipines Airlines has canceled 40 domestic flights due to the bad weather. Local authorities also have instructed local schools to allow students to stay in the house to ensure safety.
