Preparations are well underway for the first Vietnam Fruit Festival, which will be an opportunity to open up the country’s fruit export market in the near future, said Deputy Chairman of Tien Giang Province’s People’s Committee Nguyen Van Khang.
He made the statement March 9 at a meeting with the festival organization board to discuss details of the event.
During the festival, running April 19-24 in the Mekong Delta’s Tien Giang Province, more than 700 display booths will showcase hundreds of fruits from various regions in the country.
The festival is set to include three seminars on developing trademarks for Vietnamese fruits on the world market; eco-tourism in relation to domestic fruit growing; and enhancing the value of Vietnamese fruit. The event will also be an occasion for local and foreign visitors to sample Vietnamese fruit specialties
In addition, culture and art programs related to the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi; the largest map of Vietnam to be made out of fruit; and the country’s longest dragon drawn in graffiti art will be featured.
The event will also provide farmers, scientists and entrepreneurs with a chance to share their experiences in producing, preserving and processing fruit products, while seeking partners to expand markets.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper and member of the festival organization board Le Tien Tuyen, highly appreciated the festival preparation efforts by provincial leaders.
However, he said that Tien Giang needs to boost its public awareness campaigns and advertising about the festival to attract more tourists, both domestic and international.
