Mekong Delta begins harvest of summer autumn rice

The summer autumn rice crop’s productivity in the Mekong Delta provinces has increased thanks to fine weather, which has reduced insects & diseases, helped famers to save costs, according to the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute on June 8.

The Mekong Delta has about 1.7 million hectares of summer autumn rice expected to yield 7-8 million tons of rice.

Farmer Nguyen Van Tham from Thoi Lai District, Can Tho City said that they have reaped a good crop with productivity reaching 6.5-7 tons per hectare.

Traders are now purchasing fresh normal rice at VND4,100 per kilogram and fresh long grain variety at VND4,500 per kilogram. These prices profit farmers VND15-20 million per hectare.
