The chairman  Dinh Ngoc Hung gave certificate of merit and cash of VND5 million ($220) to Nguyen Thanh Tung saying that Tung is a shining example for everybody to follow.
Before, two sisters, one is twelve grader and the other is ten grader fell down into the river while they were on the way home after their class.
Tung reminded that day as he was eating the dinner with his family members he heard a cry of help in the river at that time.
When he arrived at the river, he saw many people standing around the river, then Tung discovered in the river, there was a white helmet, therefore, he jumped into the river and rescued the two girls in the flow. Tung added he was born in coastal district so he swims well; finally, he rescued two sisters in the nick of the time.
Local Phan Cong Thanh said that in the time of the incident, many people stood in the bridge but no one dared to jump into the river to save the girls because the water flow in the river was running swiftly plus it was too dark as the bridge has no light.
After the incident, local government sent police officers and militiamen to guard bridgeheads to provide timely rescue in case that same incident happens.
40-meter-long Ong Thieu Bridge through Da Nhim River connecting Thanh My Town and Ka Don Commune is in poor repair. Locals have expected to have new bridge for years.
Many incidents have taken place there. For instance, latest incident happened on October 7 when a local woman carried her two children through the bridge. Abruptly, she fell down. One of her child fell in the swift water flow. Three days after, her body was found in a place one kilometer far from the bridge.
