Losing trend prolongs to four days

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index declined the fourth day to three-week low on May 17 as investors dumped stocks heavily to cut losses amid lingering losing trend.

The shares of 284 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange crashed 1.51 percent, or 7.14 points, to close at 464.35 points.

Among the index members, 44 increased, 182 lost, while 63 remained unchanged.

Trading volume on the city bourse slightly dropped over the previous trading session as 24.2 million shares changed hands at a value of VND483 billion.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, led the list of most active shares in volume with 1.12 million shares changing hands.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) followed with 942,290 shares.

Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) came in third with 715,990 shares traded.

Cholon Water Supply Joint Stock Company (CLW), Information & Networking Technology Joint Stock Company (CMT), HUD3 Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company (HU3), and Tan Cang Logistic & Stevedoring Joint Stock Company (TCL) all collapsed the daily maximum allowed limit of 5 percent to VND7,600, VND9,500, VND13,300, and VND20,900 respectively.

Tuong An Vegetable Oil Joint Stock Company (TAC) retreated the second day, edging down 4.98 percent to close at VND24,800.

Thien Long Group Corporation (TLG) dived 4.96 percent to VND26,800.

Hoang Long Group (HLG) and Vinacafé Bienhoa Joint Stock Company (VCF) both jumped 5 percent to finish at VND12,600 and VND63,000 respectively.

Cat Loi Joint Stock Company (CLC) and Lu Gia Mechanical Electric Joint Stock Company (LGC) rebounded 4.93 percent to close at VND14,900 and VND23,400 respectively.

Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam or Vietcombank (VCB) accelerated 4.75 percent to trade at VND30,900.

The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north headed for the sixth consecutive losing trading session, subsiding 1.75 percent, or 1.42 points, to close at 79.56 points. Trading volume slightly improved over the previous trading session as 24.8 million shares worth VND301 billion changed hands.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares lessened 0.63 points to 33.87 points this morning. A total of 98,642 shares changed hands at a value of VND1 billion as of 11:15 am local time.
