LNG storage facility set up in Ba Ria- Vung Tau province

The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group and PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV GAS) yesterday began a construction of the Thi Vai liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facility for the first phase with a capacity of one million tons a year in Ba Ria- Vung Tau province.

Accordingly, the Thi Vai LNG storage facility is a part of the Thi Vai- Nhon Trach gas and power projects including project of the Thi Vai LNG import terminal, Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 Gas-Fired Power Plant that were invested by PV GAS. 

The construction consists of two phases.

The first phase work has total investment of around US$ 285 million, contributing around 1.4 billion meters cubic of gas for the Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 gas and power plants after finishing in 2022; meanwhile, the second phase of the project is expected to finish in 2023 with its capacity of up to three million tons of gas a year. 

The Thi Vai LNG storage facility is capable of receiving LNG transport ships with a tonnage of up to 85,000 DWT with the main items of the first phase including 180,000 meter cubic LNG tank and technology equipment, which were designed according to the latest versions of Vietnamese and international standards.

Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Uong Chu Luu and leaders of ministries and localities attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
