The HCMC Department of Agriculture and Rural Development announced that the Livestock Competitive and Food Safety (LIFSAP) project was being implemented in 12 provinces and cities, including HCM City.
During the period 2010 to 2015, the project will train 600 out of the 2,800 breeding households to apply good animal husbandry practices (GAHP) and help fund 400 biogas plants, 40 food markets and 10 slaughterhouses.
All breeding households in the GAHP areas will receive financial support to buy equipment such as gloves, boots, protective clothing and medicines.
The project will also provide funds to upgrade and build markets and abattoirs in order to improve environmental hygiene.
The project aims to help the agriculture sector in sustainable growth and ensure safety of husbandry products. It also aims to help animal farmers reduce environmental pollution.
The project also focuses on the management of food safety in markets, including sanitation, quarantine service, training of market management staff and meat preservation in stalls.
