‘Kujira’ storm hits East Sea

The storm was yesterday centered at 16, 0 degrees north latitude and 111, 7 degrees east longitude on the water of Paracel Island with the strongest wind speed of level 8- 10.

In past 24 hours, the storm moved westwards at 5- 10 kilometers per hour. By 7 am today, ‘Kujira’ storm was located at 18, 0 degrees north latitude and 111, 2 degrees east longitude on the territorial water of Paracel Island, 190 kilometers in the north northwestern territorial water of Paracel Island. The extreme wind speed near the center blew level 8, gusted up to level 9- 10.

Because of the influence of storm, the territorial water of Paracel Island saw strong wind speed of level 6- 7, gusted up to level 8- 10, 3- 5 meters big waves.

In next 48- 72 hours, the storm continues to move north northwestwards at 10 kilometers; and then it is forecasted to become weaker.

Moreover, because of the strong operation of southwest monsoon, the territorial water from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau and Spartly Island will experience wind speed of level 6- 8, showery weather, thunderstorm, 2- 4 big wave, and sea rough.

Dealing with bad weather situation, the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control and the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control and the National Committee for Search and Rescue asked the Committee for Search and Rescue of coastal provinces from Quang Ninh to Binh Thuan, and Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, National Defense, Transportation and Foreign Affair to prepare for evacuation of residents to safe places if the storm makes landfall.
