The number of motorcyclists travelling toward the city started increasing since 3 p.m. By late afternoon, routes to the center of the city such as Highway 13, National Highway 1A, Hanoi Highway and Kinh Duong Vuong street were crowded with thousands of vehicles.
Traffic jam got worse in the evening. Vehicles followed one another along two kilometers from Nguyen Van Linh-National Highway 1A flyover to Binh Dien bridge in Binh Chanh to reach Mien Tay (western) coach station.
According to the station, the number of passengers increased over 50 percent over normal with about 36,000-45,000 people a day.
Ten of coaches from other provinces and cities entered Mien Dong (eastern) coach station every 5-10 minutes to drop off passengers causing traffic congestion in surrounding streets namely Dinh Bo Linh, Nguyen Xi, Bach Dang and Xo Viet Nghe Tinh.
Deputy director of the station Nguyen Hoang Huy said that the facility handled about 1,600 coaches carrying over 40,000 passengers from the central region and the Central Highlands to the city on Tuesday.
Passengers also started increasing from early afternoon at Cat Lai ferry especially in Nhon Trach district side, Dong Nai province where staff went out to sell tickets to passengers waiting in the approach road to the ferry.
