In the afternoon of April 2, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Dang Minh Thong chaired a reception for a delegation from the Champasak Veterans Association (Laos), led by Colonel Bunmac Vilavong, President of the Association, who came to pay a courtesy visit.
During the meeting, the Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee warmly welcomed the delegation. In a warm and friendly atmosphere, he stressed that the enduring bond of solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos is a priceless legacy, personally fostered by President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane and President Souphanouvong.
The Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee highlighted that this loyal and steadfast relationship has been carefully cultivated by successive generations of leaders and people from both countries throughout history. Based on this foundation, Ho Chi Minh City continues to value and strengthen its bonds with Laos.
Currently, the city maintains close cooperation with five provinces in Laos, including Champasak. Briefing on socio-economic development, Mr. Dang Minh Thong noted that the city is actively pursuing strategic goals and has achieved significant results.
He strongly affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City will always create favorable conditions for the Ho Chi Minh City Veterans Association and the Champasak Veterans Association to collaborate effectively. The connection between the two associations is not only a gesture of gratitude but also an important foundation for comprehensive development in multiple fields.
Looking ahead, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Dang Minh Thong shared that 2026 will mark several special commemorative events for the city, including the 115th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh leaving home to seek national salvation and the 50th anniversary of the city officially being named after the great leader. The city is working diligently to organize these events with careful planning and grandeur.
On this occasion, the city leaders wished the delegation meaningful cultural experiences at the city’s historic sites, allowing them to learn more about Ho Chi Minh City and its people.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Colonel Bunmac Vilavong expressed his deep appreciation for the warm and sincere reception by Ho Chi Minh City leaders. He was particularly impressed by the city’s rapid development into a modern, compassionate metropolis and said the delegation felt at home in Ho Chi Minh City.
Colonel Bunmac Vilavong affirmed that the militaries and peoples of both countries have always stood side by side, supporting each other in wars, notably during the 1954 Dien Bien Phu Victory, a shining symbol of the Indochina solidarity struggle for independence. He expressed confidence that the relationship between Vietnam and Laos in general, and between Ho Chi Minh City and Champasak in particular, will continue to deepen and flourish.
