The Red River’s water level surged to 6.5 meters on Saturday, inundating thousands of square meters of crop farming in the middle bank of the river. The trail from the bank to crop fields completely lied under floodwater. Local people have mainly traveled by boats and rafts made of banana tree trunks.
The water level has continued rising quickly, reported the Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue Steering Center in Hanoi.
Meantime, the Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue Steering Center in Lao Cai province reported that heavy rain drenched the province on Saturday. Floodwater from the upper reaches of the Red River swept away many boats in Bat Xat district and Lao Cai city, flowed into 127 riverside houses forcing local residents to remove their properties from the area.
Hoa Binh hydropower plant in the Da River opened its third floodgate, causing asphyxiation killing fish en masses in lower reaches cages.
