Hydropower plants cause double floods

In the past few days, floods have continuously raged, causing increasing damages in the South Central provinces. And yet, many hydropower plants in the upstream of large rivers have also ceaselessly discharged water, creating double floods, affecting tens of thousands of households. Thereby, it shows that there are still many shortcomings in the operation and management of hydropower reservoirs.

The Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control held this morning an urgent meeting to carry out searching and rescue missions at Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant landslide in Thua Thien- Hue Province as well as verify, approach the landslide site at the Defense Economics Division 337 under the Military Region 4 of the Vietnam People's Army.

Heavy rains, floodwater release swells Red River

Long lasting heavy rainfalls have forced Son La and Hoa Binh hydropower reservoirs in the Da River and Tuyen Quang reservoir in the Na Hang river to release floodwater on Saturday, much swelling the Red River in the northern region.
