The low pressure trough on Tuesday triggered medium to heavy rainfall across the northern region, which is expected to continue for the next two to three days, according to the National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center.
Luu Minh Hai, deputy director of the Hydro Meteorological Center in Lao Cai Province, said that heavy rains caused flashfloods in Bao Thang District on Tuesday morning.
One student of grade six was swept away and is still reported missing. A total of four people have died due to flashfloods in the province since the beginning of the rainy season this year.
Meanwhile, a new typhoon named Kaitak has occurred off the coast of Philippines and forecast to move west northwest and might enter the East Sea within the next two to three days. Strong winds and high waves will be calamitous for boats still out at sea.
The storm might affect the weather in the southern region, fueling strong southwesterly winds. Meteorologists have warned localities to keep a look-out for cyclones.
The central region on Tuesday continued to suffer heat wave conditions across large areas.
