To welcome the 10th National Party Congress and celebrate the 31st anniversary of the national reunification day as well as its first broadcast, Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) inaugurated its new television central building on April 27, 2006, at 14 Dinh Tien Hoang District 1. The opening ceremony was telecast on HTV9 channel.
The construction of the 16-storey building with the total area of 19,460 square meters was started in 2001. It costs more than VND560 billion in construction and equipment.
The building has a 700-seat studio and 10 film studios, including offices of editorial department, production, etc.
According to Mr. Huynh Van Nam, Director of HTV, the TV station will build a 250-meter-antenna tower expected to finish in 2007.
On this occasion, HTV will soon broadcast special programs, such as Railway Journey which is reported by staff as they travel by train to London. If the reportage is successful, HTV will have more journeys along the Nile and Amazon rivers.
