HCMC targets 10 percent economic growth rate in 2012

Assessing the figures in January 2012, the city recorded the number of foreign visitors arriving in the city at 310,000, bringing in a turnover of VND5.8 trillion, up by 37.8 per cent year-on-year.

Transportation turnover was estimated at VND3.46 trillion, down by 3 percent over the previous month, but up by 25.4 percent year-on-year.

The total amount of goods transported through ports topped 5.04 million tonnes, 0.7 percent lower than the previous month, but 1.3 percent higher year-on-year.

Consumer price index rose 0.89 percent last month with essential goods climbing higher than average during Tet. However, this level was still lower than during the same period last year.

Concerning tasks to help the poor during Tet Lunar New Year, the city successfully raised more than VND1 trillion and organised 50 voluntary groups to visit and assist 580 units, disadvantaged households who were beneficiaries of the State preferential policy, needy families, and workers in the city.

This year, the city has set an economic growth target to exceed 10 percent.
