The new season will be kicked off with the concert “God in Disguise” , a highly melodic lyrical suite composed in 1940 by Lars-Erik Larsson (1908 – 1986) in March. Written in a neo-Romantic style, it is one of the most popular works in the classical field in Sweden.
The concert will feature the HBSO Orchestra and the Gustav Sjokvist Chamber Choir of Sweden. The program will be conducted by the talented Swedish conductor Florian Benfer, who won the Johannes Norrby Award in 2016. He is artistic leader of the Gustav Sjokvist Chamber Choir.

The HBSO will also present to audience the modern ballet “Touching the Past” by choreographers Nguyen Phuc Hai and Nguyen Phuc Hung.
Excerpts from the musical De Men Phieu Luu Ky (Adventure of a Cricket) will return to the city. The HBSO presented the contemporary dance and music performance in last July.
The musical based on the story of the same name by famous writer To Hoai was one of the biggest art projects of the HBSO last year. The opera was planned for many years by composer Viet Anh.
The cricket’s colorful adventure featuring cultural characteristics of specific East Asian cultures is expected to bring a special opera with cultural values to audiences.
De Men Phieu Luu Ky is one of the most well-known Vietnamese children book by late writer To Hoai. The book is about the adventures of a cricket that leaves his nest to travel and discover the world. He learns new things and experiences with the help of many insects and animals. Written in 1941, the book has been translated into 37 languages, including English, French, Thai and Russian.
The theater will introduce special performances featuring famous works of well-known composers during this years, such as concert of popular movie soundtracks, Christmas concert, operas and ballets, including The Magic Flute, Nutcracker, Cinderella, Carmen and other symphonic works by Tchaikovsky, J.Brahms, F.Mendelssohn, L.V.Beethoven, S.Rachmaninov, Mozart, D.Shostakovich.
Highlight event is the biennial concert titled “Autumn Melody” 2019 with the participation of People’s Artist Dang Thai Son and Vietnamese-American violinist Vu Viet Chuong.
Since it began in 2005, the annual ‘Autumn Melody’ concert has received a lot of support and contributions from hundreds of local and foreign artists, and regarded as a place for Vietnamese and foreign musicians to meet and exchange the latest in music news, and where music lovers can have a great experience. The music show is organized every two years starting 2013.
As planned, the theater will light up its stage with three weekend performances every month.
In this year, 33 artists of the HBSO will travel to Japan for the Asia in Resonance 2019 Gala Concert in Tokyo in July. They will perform with musicians from Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Japan. The event is part of the “Asia in Resonance 2019”, a series of events introducing its various cultural exchange programs between Japan and Southeast Asia.
