The People’s Committee in the nation’s capital has been working hard to prepare for the 1000th ceremony of Thang Long – Hanoi. By tidying up the city and launching new tours the Committee aims to make the event an unforgettable experience for tourists.

City traffic is at the top of the list of things to do for the millennium celebration. The route from Hanoi’s suburban district of Ha Dong to the city center has been equipped with new traffic light systems, to guarantee smoother traffic flows in rush hours.
The committee is promoting buses to provide the bulk of passenger transport during the festival and will put on a lot of extra bus services including upgrades and new bus routes.
To ease congestion trouble spots, some streets, including O Cho Dua and Giang Vo, will be turned into two-way divided roads. Cau Giay Street to Cua Nam Street will also have dividers installed. Upgrades between Cat Linh Street to De La Thanh Street will provide another link to the city via Hoang Cau Street.
Motorbikes and cars will have to use different levels on Thang Long Bridge for better traffic flow following bridge renovations, officials said.
New routes to the capital’s heart from Noi Bai International Airport using Duong Bridge and Chuong Duong Bridge will also reduce traffic on Thang Long Bridge.
Image improvements
To beautify the inner city, Hanoi authorities have been cleaning up unlawful graffiti and wall advertisements, tidying up power lines, clearing pavements for pedestrians and enforcing regulations on street vendors.
Officials pledged there won’t be any vendors operating on the routes from the suburbs to Sword Lake.
Unsightly power lines in 10 areas will be replaced by underground cabling, offering a clearer view of the city.
Popular tourist spots like Sword Lake, Temple of Literature, One Pillar Pagoda, Thanh Nien Street, Western Lake, Truc Bach Lake, Thong Nhat Park and Hanoi Zoo have been renovated with added facilities and conveniences.
More destinations for tourists
Visitors can also enjoy more tours of trade villages like Bat Trang and Mong Phu or ancient towns in the districts of Hoai Duc, Chuong My, Ung Hoa, Phu Xuyen, Quoc Oai and Thach That.
One of the most-anticipated new destinations is the centuries-old citadel in the Son Tay district that was restored last year to its original glory.
The neighbouring Ba Vi National Park has also been upgraded with new restaurants, outdoor swimming pools, and hotels and plenty of new wild adventures debuting during the celebrations.
A must-see-and-enjoy tour will be the day trip on a small boat along the Red Delta. During the tour, the visitors can enjoy food and drink and visit Dai Lo temple, God Giong Temple, Chu Dong Tu – Tien Dung Temple, Hoa Lam Pagoda and ancient town of Bat Trang.
To oversee the progress on all the projects and ensure a unique experience for visitors to the celebration, the committee has formed five teams of inspectors.
