The 50-year-old patient was hospitalized when he was suffering serious pneumonia, breathing problems on September 25. Doctors diagnosed that he was infected with H1N1.
According to doctors’ prognosis, he hardly survived.
When mechanical ventilation was not effective, the only way to save the patient’s life was extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
After applying ECMO technique and medication for treating pneumonia, his condition was better.
After nine-day treatment in intensive care unit, he recovered and could walk and eat.
He is expected to discharge on October 11.
Head of the ICU Dr. Mach Van Quang said that the man was only serious H1N1 influenza case being save by ECMO technique.
