On September 19, Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee received Philipp Roesler, Germany’s Minister of Economics and Technology to the City.

Mr. Quan expressed his appreciation at the strong relations and cooperation in various fields, particularly in economy, between Germany and Vietnam in recent years.
At present, there are 60 German invested projects worth US$300 million in Ho Chi Minh City, including Metro Line No. 2 from Ben Thanh to Tham Luong.
The German Minister highly appreciated the economic growth rate and business environment in Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City. He hoped that the Vietnamese government will create advantageous conditions for German investors to carry out their projects in the country.
On the same day, Mr. Philipp Roesler and Vu Huy Hoang, Minister of Trade and Industry took part in the Vietnam-German Economic Forum.
According to the German Minister, economic cooperation between the two countries has many advantages because of traditional relations over past years. In addition, the Vietnamese community numbers approximately 125,000 people in Germany and are an effective bridge.
He committed that the German government will push for the conclusion of a free-trade agreement (FTA) between the EU countries and Vietnam.
Germany has been one of Vietnam’s key partners in Europe, accounting for 20 percent of total EU exports. Vietnam has focused on strengthening institutions, developing infrastructure and training human recourses to attract investment from foreign countries, including Germany, said Vu Huy Hoang, minister of Trade and Industry.
