LONDON, March 28, 2011 (AFP) - Tottenham's France international defender William Gallas has extended his contract with the English Premiership club.

The 33-year-old joined Spurs on a one-year deal last summer after failing to agree a new contract with Arsenal, and has gone on to make 28 appearances for Harry Redknapp's side this season.

The former Chelsea player has also led the north London side on occasions in the Premier League and Champions League.

"The club is delighted to announce that William Gallas has signed a two-year contract extension which runs until 2013," Tottenham said in a statement.

"The experienced France defender has impressed at the heart of our defence since joining the club in the summer following the expiration of his contract at Arsenal at the end of the 2009/10 campaign."

Gallas, who is currently out injured, has been a key figure in Tottenham's progression into the Champions League quarter-finals and made a vital goal-line clearance during the decisive draw with AC Milan in the last 16.
