French leading pianist to perform in Hanoi

One of France’s most talented pianists, Roger Muraro, will travel to Vietnam for a performance at Hanoi Opera House on May 5.

The pianist will present to music lovers the Nocturne No. 1 in B flat minor Op. 9 No. 1, Ballade No. 3 in A flat major op. 47, and Spianato Andante and Grande Polonaise Brillante op. 22 by great classical music composer Chopin and the Symphonie fantastique by composers Franz Liszt and Hector Berlioz.

Born in 1959, he grew up in a village in the Lyons region. He entered Lyons conservatory at the age of 11, initially studying the saxophone. He began to teach himself the piano, and when this came to the attention of his saxophone professor.

He obtained first prizes in chamber music in 1980 and in piano in 1981. He also won the fourth prize of the international Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1986 and was awarded Franz Liszt in Parma and Victoire de la Musique in the category of instrumental soloist in 2001.

Roger Muraro has worked with prestigious orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra National de France, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and more.

Tickets are on sale at L’Espace, the French Cultural Center, 24 Trang Tien Street, Hanoi. Ticket prices are VND100,000-200,000 (US$5-10). A discount of 50 percent of ticket is offered to L’Espace staff and students.
