Flood level measured at stations in the Saigon River will top alarming level 3 by 0.1-0.3 meters and gradually recede. It will reduce to 3.3 meters at Tan Chau station and 3.10 meters at Chau Doc on October 18. Stations in the lower reaches of Mekong and Saigon rivers will see it below alarming level 1.
The center has warned of tide flooding in low lying areas in HCMC, Vinh Long and Can Tho city.
Floodwater in combination of high tide has submerged thousands of hectares of sugarcane in Hau Giang province, many fruit orchards and fish farms in Vinh Long province.
Meantime a cold front has moved in the northern region, forecast to start influence local weather late today. The cold spell will spread to central provinces from tomorrow making it cold.
Provinces in the Red River delta and Thanh Hoa province will see temperature swing from 19-22 degree Celsius. Northern mountainous areas will see it fall to 16-19 degrees. They will see medium to heavy rain.
Northern provinces and central provinces from Nghe An to Binh Dinh will receive medium to heavy rainfall from October 10-13.
