The US will bolster support for countries in the Mekong subregion through the Mekong-US partnership, US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs Atul Keshap said at a recent online seminar to reveal results of a report on transboundary rivers and addressing challenges in Mekong River.
The Mekong Delta has just entered the beginning of the dry season but drought and salt penetration have been encircling many areas and forecast to worsen, spread further inland and prolong with the water volume in Tonle Sap and water flow from the upper reaches of the Mekong River likely to drop to a record low in the dry season 2019-2020.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to review the production of the autumn-winter rice crop and the seasonal rice crop of 2019 and deploy cultivation plan for the upcoming winter-spring rice crop in provinces in the Southeast region and the Mekong Delta on October 11 in Tien Giang Province.
Floodwater in the lower reaches of Mekong and Saigon rivers will continue rising because of high tide, expected to reach its highest level on October 10 and 11, said National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center.
The National Center for Hydro Meteorological Forecasting said on August 28, the water level in Mekong River is rising. The water level will peak at 3.93m at Tan Chau Station on the Tien River on August 27, below warning level two at 0.07m; on the Hau River at Chau Doc Station at 3.47m.
