The movie Giao Lo Dinh Menh (Inferno) directed by Victor Vu has been officially eliminated from the Canh Dieu Vang - Golden Kite Award 2011.
The announcement was made by the annual national film contest organization board. The organizers decided to drop this film from the competition because it is believed that the picture is a knockoff version of Hollywood’s “Shattered”, produced in 1991.
There will be 10 movies competing in the film festival, namely Tay Son hao kiet (‘Tay Son Dynasty’s heroes’), Hoa dao (Peach blossoms), Vu dieu dam me (Dance of Passion), Vuot qua ben Thuong Hai (Across Shanghai), Long thanh cam gia ca (The Fate of a Songstress in Thang Long), Khat vong Thang Long (Thang Long aspiration), Nhin ra bien ca (Looking to the sea), Co Dau Dai Chien (War of Brides), Thien Su 99 (Angle 99) and Canh Dong Bat Tan (Floating Lives).
This year the competition will see more entries than previous events. The quality and standard has been raised higher and includes a greater diversity of styles such as history, comedy and contemporary themes. Moreover, now the movies are increasingly being made by private film companies.
Long thanh cam gia ca (The Fate of a Songstress in Thang Long), Khat vong Thang Long (Thang Long aspiration) and Canh Dong Bat Tan (Floating Lives) are strong contenders.
Directors Nguyen Phan Quang Binh, Luu Trong Ninh, Da Ba Son; actresses Nhat Kim Anh, LanNgoc and actors Dustin Nguyen, Dinh Toan and Quach Ngoc Ngoan are expected to win in the categories of “Best director”, “Best actress” and “Best actor”.
The awards ceremony of the Golden Kite Award 2011will be held at Hoa Binh Theater in Ho Chi Minh City on March 13 and telecast live on VTV2 and VTV4 channels.
