LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Aug 28, 2010 (AFP) - Dutch judo great Anton Geesink, a gold medal winner at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and a three-time world champion, has died aged 76, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Saturday.
Geesink, an IOC member and honorary life member of the International Judo Federation, also collected 21 European titles and multiple national titles in a long and decorated sporting career.
A 10th-dan judoka he became a member of the Dutch National Olympic Committee in 1987 and acted as advisor to the Dutch Minister of Sport and was honorary life president of the European Judo Union.
Born in Utrecht Geesink wwas crowned world champion in 1961, 1964 and 1965.
