Dollars, gold cool down

BIDV sold dollars at VND22,465 per dollar. Vietcombank, Eximbank, and ACB fixed their US dollar selling price at VND22,450 per dollar. Techcombank bought dollars at VND22,440 per dollar and sold at VND22,540 per dollar. Only Agribank kept its US dollar selling rate at highest level, purchasing dollars at VND22,500 and selling at VND22,547.

The US dollar exchange rate on free market also dropped drastically.  Dollars were traded at VND22,720-22,730 per dollar for buying and VND22,630 for selling.

The price of gold in Vietnam continued its losing momentum on the same day.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon Jewelry Company bought gold at VND33.75 million a tael, and sold at VND34.25 million per tael.

The Hanoi-based Doji Gems and Gold Group purchased SJC’s gold at VND33.9 million per tael and sold at VND34.1 million per tael.

The gap between buying and selling prices have been narrowed to VND200,000-500,000 per tael while it was widened to VND1.2 million per tael when gold changed wildly.

The Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index managed to maintain rising trend of two previous trading sessions thanks to blue-chip stocks, gaining 9.92 points to 555.81 points. There were 155 stocks advancing, 63 retreating, and 92 standing still.

The VN30-Index also rose 6.63 points to close at 581.51 points.

In Hanoi, the HNX-Index slightly edged up 0.56 points to 77.02 points with 132 winners, 66 losers while 169 stocks remained unchanged. The HNX30-Index surged 0.38 points to 143.78 points.

The market’s total trading value exceeded VND2.5 trillion.

After recovering for three straight trading sessions, VN-Index almost won back what it lost on the ‘black Monday’ on August 24.
