Construction temporary halts on Thai Binh 2 Thermo Power Plant

PetroVietnam recently announced that it is temporary halting construction of Thai Binh 2 Thermo Power Plant due to obstructions related to land compensation and site clearance.

According to PetroVietnam, since this May some households at My Loc Commune, Thai Thuy District, Thai Binh Province have obstructed the plant’s construction site. They did not agree to compensation offered by the corporation.

Thai Binh 2 Thermo Power Plant is one of two power plants of Thai Binh Power Centre project, which is designed capacity of 1,800 MW.

The project an area of over 250 hectares would come up My Loc Commune. This is the largest investment project in the province with total investment capital of over US$2.1 billion.

The project includes two power plants: Thai Binh 1 thermo power plant with capacity of 600MW – main contractor is Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) group and Thai Binh 2 thermo power plant with capacity of 1,200MW.

The main contractor is PetroVietnam.
