While a cold front has just ‘taped off’ in northern Vietnam, another is set to move in by tomorrow morning, making the region’s weather very wintry.
This cold spell will spread rain to several northern and central provinces, the National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center has forecasted.
The cold weather will linger on until the beginning of January. Some northern areas will see the mercury fall to only 2-3 degrees Celsius. In the central area, it will be 14-18 degrees.
Additionally, the Gulf of Tonkin and the waters off the central coast will continue to experience rough seas, with strong northeasterly winds from 39-61 kilometers an hour and gusts up to 62-88 kilometers an hour.
From tomorrow onwards, the seas off Binh Dinh to Ca Mau provinces and the southern waters will experience the same weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the southern area is still affected by a low-pressure zone. It was at 3-5 degrees latitude north and 111-112 degrees longitude east on East Sea Tuesday and was moving slowly southeast at five kilometers an hour.
In relation to the cold weather, frost has occurred in Bat Xat District of the northwestern province of Lao Cai yesterday. It was the first frost of the winter this year.
Luu Minh Hai, director of the Lao Cai Province Hydro Meteorological Center said that the frost would slowly fade by Wednesday.
