Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association announced that Vietnam has exported nearly 1.6 million tons of coffee this year, bringing in US$3.4 billion, an increase of 23 percent in volume and 24 percent in value, at an average export price of $2,000 per ton, lower than that in 2011.
Vietnam has exported coffee to 80 countries and territories this year, of which Germany, the US, Italy, Spain, and Japan are the biggest importers.
In the next two years, there will be around 50,000-60,000 hectares of old and stunted coffee plants that will need replanting across the country. For that reason, the country’s coffee production is expected to lower to 1.2-1.3 million tons, down by 15-20 percent in the next crop.
