An investment fund of VND139 billion (US$6.68 million) has just been approved by Ho Chi Minh City to further improve traffic infrastructure with the sole purpose of reducing traffic jams, congestion on streets and road casualties.

The above fund will be invested in 41 highly essential traffic projects that will cover building of tunnels, installing lane dividers, and upgrading and broadening of roads in densely and congested parts of the City.
In the first six months of this year, the HCMC People’s Committee spent VND105 billion ($5 million) on projects to help reduce traffic jams and road accidents.
The Department of Transport installed more than 35 kilometers of lane dividers along 16 road routes at a total cost of VND50 billion.
HCMC recorded 336 cases of traffic accidents that killed 300 people and injured 143 this year.
Compared to the same period in 2011, the numbers of traffic accidents and casualties have reduced and the time span of normal 30 minute traffic jams has also significantly decreased.
