City starts plans to help poor enjoy Lunar New Year

It is just one month to the Lunar New Year. State agencies and businesses in Ho Chi Minh City are planning to help poor workers enjoy a happy Tet holiday.

It is just one month to the Lunar New Year. State agencies and businesses in Ho Chi Minh City are planning to help poor workers enjoy a happy Tet holiday.

The city’s Labor Traders Union is assisting workers from far away provinces, to return home for Tet. They will done by purchasing tickets for them. This year, businesses in the city have donated 50 percent of the price of a ticket to the union. This to share costs and expenses with the union.

The union is expected to buy 5,000 tickets for the poor workers in Northern provinces and the central region. The total cost is estimated at around VND5 billion (US$250,000), half of which will be donated by businesses.

To help workers enjoy the Tet holiday, some businesses hope to rent buses, in order to drive the workers home. Also to offer them gifts.

Truong Lam Danh, deputy head of the city Labor Traders Union said the union is expected to offer 2,500 gifts to beneficiaries and poor families to help them celebrate the Tet holiday.

This year, the city Communist Youth Union, are planning to help 1,000 workers in flood-hit provinces such as Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam and Binh Dinh. It will also offer 200 gifts, worth VND400, 000 each, to each poor worker. The city authorities will also organize a market were visitors will have the chance to buy Vietnam high quality goods.

A representative from the city’s Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs said the department will make every effort to ensure that people living in poor districts are able to enjoy a happy Tet holiday.
 
The city’s Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has proposed to offer gifts to the poor families, with VND700, 000 per gift, an increase of VND100, 000, as compared to last year.
