Some 49,000 poor households whose annual income per capita is under VND21 million ($934.3) will be gifted VND1.15 million each on the special holidays.
The city authorities will also gift families those who had served in the nation’s revolutions.
For instance, 650 veterans, intellectuals, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, seriously wounded soldiers and orange agent victims- soldiers will receive gifts each worth VND3.1 million while 1,5000 wounded soldiers, heroes of the people's armed forces and labor heroes will be presented gifts each worth VND1.7 million.
Around 264,000 social welfare brackets will be handed out a gift worth VND1.3 million each.
Ho Chi Minh City also plans to give gifts to children of soldiers who are serving in Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, maritime platform DK1, families of army officers working for peacekeping mission of the United Nation.
All 164,000 staffs in public services, party organizations, unions also have a gift worth VND1.4 million.
Total spending for gifts during Tet holidays in HCMC is VND762 billion. Additionally, enterprises, benefactors also contribute VND600 billion to offer gifts for disadvantaged people, said Director Le Minh Tan.
