City says not to grant golf course license

Ho Chi Minh City will not grant license for building of golf courses in order to save farm land , said the chairman of the People’s Committee, Le Hoang Quan, at the preliminary wrap-up report of cooperation between the city and HCMC Farmers’ Association in 2009-2010.

In recent years, the country sees a large number of golf courses which have been flourishing everywhere. It is remarkable that golf course construction is taking such a large area of land, especially fertilized agriculture land.

Ho Chi Minh City’s agricultural sector has cureently achieved a growth rate of 6 percent and an average production value over VND138 million (US$6,900) per ha every year.

The industry expects to eye an increase of production value by 7 percent and a total revenue of VND8,000 billion (US$400 million) in 2010.
