Offices, shops, and supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City are getting flowers, gifts, and promotions ready to welcome Vietnam Teachers' Day, November 20.

The Thai Tuan Group Corporation unveiled a new ao dai collection together with discounts for teachers.
Customers buying for VND180,000 or more between November 10 and 20 will get gifts like branded cosmetics.
Phuong Toan shoe shop on Tran Huy Lieu Street, Phu Nhuan District, unveiled November 9 a collection of leather shoes titled “be grateful to teachers.” Teachers are entitled to a 30 percent discount.
The shop will also offer other customers a 10 percent discount for buying products from the collection from November 19 to 21.
On November 20, Thao Fashion shop in Dinh Tien Hoang Street, District 1, will offer a 20 percent discount on jackets and shirts costing VND500,000 or more.
From the beginning of November, Big C and CoopMart supermarkets have displayed hundreds of giftwrapped cosmetics, clothes, and souvenirs costing VND35,000 – 350,000.
Teachers eating Muoi Xiem rice pancakes at two restaurants in Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, District 3, and Nguyen Trai, District 1, will enjoy a 20 percent discount on November 20.
According to flower traders, business has picked up sooner than last year. Since November 10, customers have been ordering over the telephone and websites.
Some companies at Ho Thi Ky flower market in District 10 said they would increase prices by 10 to 30 percent from 17 November.
In related news, the HCMC Department of Education and Training and Dam Sen Cultural Park held cultural and entertainment activities on November 15 to mark Vietnam Teachers’ Day.
Competitions including cooking and floral arrangement and coracle races attracted the participation of 1,000 teachers and education officials.
A music contest titled “the beauty of white chalk” in praise of Ho Chi Minh, the country, and teachers was also held.
