The Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention in Ho Chi Minh City has sent a dispatch to relevant authorities on implementing measures to cope with sudden rain and thunderstorms that continue to recur in the city.
Weather conditions in the southern regions and HCMC are sunny and muggy during the mornings. However, by late afternoons light rain is sometimes accompanied with thunder, lightning, and strong gusts of wind.
According to the dispatch that has been sent to relevant departments and district authorities, all fishing boats must be equipped with lifebuoys and all crew members must wear life jackets while out at sea.
The boats should immediately move ashore or seek shelter when thunderclouds begin to appear.
In the mainland, people should fortify their houses and chop down branches of trees overhanging over rooftops or electric lines.
When heavy rain accompanies a thunderstorm, the elderly and children should be evacuated to safer places. People should not take shelter under trees or in makeshift houses.
