City enterprises set to supply enough essential goods during Tet

Consumers in Ho Chi Minh City need not worry about shortage of essential goods during the coming Lunar New Year, as 22 traders have joined in the goverment's price subsidized program to maintain adequate supplies.

Many businesses in Ho Chi Minh City have already completed plans on supply of essential goods under the price subsidized program, well in advance of the Tet holiday season, according to a Sai Gon Giai Phong reporter.

Wholesale markets will supply 40-50 percent and businesses will supply 30-40 percent of essential goods during the coming Tet holiday season.

The Department of Industry and Trade in Ho Chi Minh City said that 22 businesses will participate in the price subsidized program during the next Tet holiday season. All the participating enterprises will store the required commodities, estimated at VND5,566 billion (US$278 million).

Le Ngoc Dao, deputy director of the department said that this year, the price subsidized program has attracted participation of many businesses in the city. Therefore, the program is set to cope with any inadequacies in the market that often occur during the Lunar New Year.

Bui Hanh Thu, deputy general director of supermarket chain Saigon Co.op, said they have already started preparing for the coming Tet season, even though it is still three months away.

Manufacturers have already assured of adequate supplies during Tet, which falls on January 23 next year, and that prices would remain stable.
