A delegation from Ho Chi Minh City led by Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, on December 7 visited 500 needy residents in Ly Son Island District in Quang Ngai Province and gave Tet gifts, free medicines and conducted free examinations.
The delegation included representatives from the Southern branch of the Red Cross of Vietnam, the Red Cross of Ho Chi Minh City, businesses and club-houses in HCMC, and philanthropists and artists in HCMC.
Ly Son Island is about 16 nautical miles off the mainland. There are around 1,340 poor households and 610 households living near poverty line in Ly Son Island District.
On this occasion, artists from HCMC held a performance named ‘Nghia Tinh Ly Son’ (Sentimental Attachment for Ly Son) to entertain local residents.
In related news, Vuon Chuoi Charity Group in District 3 in Ho Chi Minh City gave 300 gift packages worth VND350,000 each to poor ethnic residents in Dak Ro Ve Town in Kon Ray District. A delegation from Pho An Pagoda in Long An Province also visited and gave 300 gift packages worth VND450,000 each to poor ethnic residents in Dak To Lung Commune in Kon Ray District of Kon Tum Province on December 6 and 7.
