Of late,  residents of HCMC are getting accustomed to newly installed road metal dividers along Vo Van Kiet Street, Lo Gom Bridge to  Thu Thiem Tunnel, Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Khanh Hoi Bridge to Tan Thuan Bridge and Le Thi Rieng Street.

Along with constructing dividers on streets, several roads like National Highway 1A, 13, 22 and Kha Van Can Street, Cau Dua Bridge to Hiep Binh are also being widened.

The HCMC Department of Transport has ordered related agencies to install traffic signs and lights at accident prone spots.

Accordingly, 33 traffic light posts, 2,479 traffic signs have been installed at crossroads in city's districts.

These changes have yielded positive and instantaneous results. Now there is less gridlock being reported on these roads, which earlier faced huge congestion during peak hours.

Dividers force drivers to stick to their side of the road and cannot make right or left turn at will, making it much safer for both vehicular traffic and pedestrians.

According to the traffic police in the city, accidents in many hot spots has decreased by 25 percent and fewer traffic accidents and casualties are being reported.

A transport official said that traffic has improved a lot after the streets were widened and more importantly, the changes and improvements have been well received by the people.
