Children’s writing contest ended in Hanoi

An award ceremony of a writing contest for kids, which was part of the Vietnam-Denmark Children Literature Support Project, was held at Hanoi Library on December 17.

The 2012-2013 competition aiming at encouraging writers to produce good books for children included categories of prose themed “Overcoming fear” for kids at ages 10-14 and comics titled “Our homeland festivals” for children at ages 3-6.

One year after launch, the organizer received more than 300 submissions. The first prize of the category of short story went to Nguyen Ngoc Hoai Nam for the work “Ghost in the garden”.

No first prize of the comic category but two second prizes were awarded to “Anank’s decayed teeth” by Duy Tu and “The rabbit’s light” by Khoa Le.

On the occasion, the 2013-2015 writing contest for kids themed “Knocking on hearts” and “The day we meet…” for the categories of short story and comics has been launched.

The Children Literature Support Project launched by the Danish Embassy in Vietnam, Danish Writers’ Association and Kim Dong Publishing House is a cultural cooperation activity between Vietnam and Denmark to promote the creativeness within Vietnamese writers and artists, as well as create an opportunity for children to get access to new knowledge and bring new books to children nationwide.

Since its launch in 2006, the project has set up 16 readers’ clubs nationwide and more clubs of this kind will be opened in the near future around Vietnam to promote the effective reading model. (Source: internet)
