Mr. Quan thanked residents who agreed to remove to other land in order to contribute to urban planning projects and reduce pollution from dirty canals and rivers.

The project-investor, the Steering Center of the Urban Flood Control Program will spend VND12 billion from the state budget to dredge 1,171 m long, 15m wide and 2m deep canal.

Over 1,600 households have been removed from the canal. This is the first project to be carried out under the social contribution mechanism. The investor will pay land compensation for clearance as well as construct resettlement buildings; on the other hand, the city will provide vacant warehouses or land to the investor.

Mr. Quan said resettlement blocks, leased offices and buildings for commercial would be constructed along the canal in the future.
